Last night saw the Laois Community Games County Talent Finals take place in Mountmellick.Competitor numbers were well down on other years, with no entries at all in some competitions e.g. drama and group singing, and no opposition at all for a number of acts. That said, the talent of the entries from Stradbally did not disappoint . First up was Bronagh Scully who delivered a wonderful rendition ,in the u16 recitation competition-winning her a gold medal. Meabh Handy was the sole ,singing entrant from Stradbally.Meabh too gave s great performance, winning her a silver medal.Well done Meabh! The U12 Irish Dancers gave a super and highly entertaining performance of "Annie" and won gold. The team was Tia Buggie,Aisling Mills,Kate Sheridan,Orla Creary,Kirstin Whìte and Erika o Connor. Their u16 counterparts comprising of Chloe Mills,Orla Sheridan Grainne Mcaul,Bronagh Scully, Sarah Tuohey and Ellen Hennessy also danced their way to a gold medal. This experienced team of dancers ,four of whom have been on the team since their u12 days and between them have eight all Ireland gold medals, gave a superb performance,in what was undoubtably one of the highlights of the evening. Thanks to Bridanne and Grainne Buggie who are great supporters of Community Games and give hours of their time year after year to get these dancers through county and on to national finals. Looking forward to great things from all the girls once again ,at the national finals on August 19th in Abbotstown . Thanks to Co.secretary Jane Walsh for organising the event.
Our u13 indoor soccer team were in action this evening in Moate. After going a goal down within a few minutes, the lads quickly equalised with a great goal from James Devoy. With the action going from end to end, Blake Kemmy put the lads ahead in the second half only for the home side to draw level again, which put the game into extra time. Ronan Creery then helped Stradbally go 3-2 up, with a great free kick. Unfortunately it was short lived again, as we had a penalty awarded against us, which took the match level again 3-3. With only 20 seconds to go the home side scored, leaving the final tally 4-3. The lads couldn't have done anymore and were just so unlucky. Our team was Cillian Maher, Fionn Mullally, James Devoy, Ronan Creery, Blake Kemmy, Danny Langton, Noah Delaney and John McCarthy.
