Milverton National School is hoping, with your help, to scoop ECO-UNESCO award. Our School Mural project has made it to the finals of the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards 2017. They take place in the Mansion House on May 23rd. There is a 'People's Choice Award' voted for by the public. Votes can be cast from the 2nd-15th May on www.ecounesco.ie. Please take the time to vote for us. The mural is the work of local school children and is displayed at the back of Supervalu in Skerries. It highlights the issue of climate change and climate justice. In solidarity between the children of Ireland and Nicaragua. Please share with your friends and spread the word.
u6/7s Had a lively training session on the sandy 2nd pitch. After a few sharp drills we went straight into game time and the lads continue to progress with the handling skills and some snappy passing on show. u8s Played away at our near neighbours Balbriggan. A near full turnout of 25 made the trip. Balbriggan proved formidable opponents, their small team is well drilled and tough to break down. A great day was had by all. At home next week at the usual time for one last session before breaking for the summer. Thanks to the parents for a huge turnout of support on Sunday and at every stage during the year u10s Trained on Sunday as Dundalk were unable to field. After some warm up drills it was straight into a practice game. Focus was on alignment, tackling and passing wide early. We are waiting to confirm a match on Sunday otherwise it be training. We will be taking the €5 for Awesome Walls on Tuesday May 2nd . Please include it in an envelope with your with players name on it. u11s Took part in the Athy RFC Camp-Out event over the weekend. We fielded two teams and both Titan and Warrior teams played superbly, putting it up to a wide range of teams from across Ireland, and a team from England (Stourbridge). Kids and parents had super fun late into the evening, which included a battery of cracking songs from Tommy, Campbell and others..... Highly recommend and well done to Athy RFC for a very well run event. 'G'wan the Goats!'

Great swim today at 10am with Low Rock Swimmers . Mark Lynch , Tatiana , Moi , Pat , Fergal ,Vanessa & .many more .Great buzz and great to use their tiny clubhouse !! They are sending a Crew up to do M50s soon ... watch the horizon ... they're on the way !!
Now that the waters are getting warmer and potential for longer swims are upon us , all swimmers are encouraged to swim well within their capabilities and in close proximity to shore , & clear of adverse currents . Beachside of a straight line between the Springers and The Brook is relatively free of currents . Beyond the Brook or East of this line has strong south bound currents. Swims from Springers should be made initially TOWARDS the beach and then parallel to but close to the shore . Tow Buoys are again encouraged . Offshore swims are ill advised without a boat in support. These include but are not limited to :: The Perch Any of the islands. Anywhere offshore . The M50 is relatively safe as it remains close inshore but the hazard of boats exist so tow buoy is ideal for visibility . Happy Swimming Let's all take care of ourselves !!

Milverton Quarry Skerries- Backfilling to start soon. Roadstone Limited has recently informed Skerries Community Association that extraction and backfilling operations at Milverton Quarry, which ceased operations in 2009, will commence around end April 2017. Roadstone will import 1,900,000 tonnes of material into the quarry, at up to 400,000 tonnes per year. At their estimated average of 250,000 tonnes per year, this could mean 20-tonne trucks on our roads six days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m for more than seven years. Some rock extraction — some trucks also leaving the quarry full — will occur as well. Continue reading at http://www.skerriesca.com/category/news/ Picture by Mark Broderick
