RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station
A lone Stand-Up paddler departing Dun Laoghaire Harbour after nightfall this evening sparked safety concerns that led to a search operation involving our ALB crew afloat and the Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard unit ashore. The person was spotted leaving the shore in the harbour about 8.30pm without a lifejacket or lights. The Irish Coast Guard MRCC Dublin requested the search out of concern for the person's safety in darkness and the presence of marine traffic. A shoreline search was carried out while the lifeboat crew fired white illumination flares and used night vision equipment in an effort to spot the SUPer who was thought to be headed for Bulloch Harbour. However, a member of the public reported a person and board landing at Sandycove Harbour matching the description and the search was stood down.
