Thank's to Donna and the Junior & Senior infants, Kildavin Primary School, for coming to Bunclody Library this morning. The children attended for one of our April Spring into Storytime Events. We had a fun time with lots of stories and songs and we even managed to add in some physical activity! Lots of stories including Bob to the Rescue by James Bowden and Garry Jenkins, Winnie Flies Again by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul, and of course our old friend Itchy Bear made an appearance. We even had volunteers to re-enact our Itchy Bear story using the wonderful hand puppets! Afterwards, there was a chance to browse the books and find your favourite! We hope to see you all soon in Bunclody Library.
Reading Together It’s never too early to start reading to your child…. even from birth. A child who is read to, will grow up loving books and wanting to learn to read. Did you know that reading to your pre-school child….. • develops their early literacy skills and helps them prepare for learning to read once they reach primary school • helps them develop their listening skills and increases their attention span • helps them develop an interest in books and to see reading as a fun activity • gives them an opportunity to explore their ideas and feelings with you • improves their social skills and their understanding of the world • helps foster their creativity and curiosity • is a special time for you both to get cosy, cuddle up and have fun Reading Together. Join your local library today and get reading with your child....it's Free. Wildlife Artist Dave Daly in Bunclody Library. Wildlife art and a consuming interest in wild birds and their environment has always been central to the work of wildlife artist Dave Daly. Dave spoke about how capturing the lives of wildlife birds through field sketches and watercolours has shaped his life and career. His first line drawings were published in British Birds and other magazines in the mid eighties and he was elected as a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists in London (SWLA) in 1990. Since then Dave has been on many expeditions taking him from Marshes N.E. Poland to The Hula Valley, Israel, to highlight the importance of the valley. Up to 500 million birds migrate through the valley on their journey north from Africa to Eastern Europe, (which will feature as the next talk by Dave later in the year). Dave's illustrations have featured in many publications such as 'Where to watch Birds in Ireland’, ‘The Complete Garden Bird Book’ published by New Holland, Bill Oddies ‘Introduction to Birdwatching’ – New Holland 2002 and many more. If you missed last night's talk you can see a selection of Dave Daly's work which will be featured in an exhibition throughout May in Bunclody Library.
